UNDER WHAT LAW
The Old Covenant reveals the holiness of God in the righteous standard of the law and promised a coming Redeemer; The New Covenant reveals the holiness of God in His righteous son, who fulfilled the promise. The New Covenant or the New Testament is Gods’ new arrangement with men based on the death of Christ. We can look to the law (Old Testament) for guidance but our obligation is to live by the New Testament. (The old must line up with the new).
 Have you ever heard people talking about the Ten Commandments and saying that we are to live by them? In the Old Testament that is exactly the guidance that God gave to Moses on Mt. Sinai. However, in the New Testament God gave us the greatest commandment(s).
The Old Covenant
Ex 20: 1-17 God gave Moses the Ten Commandments
- You shall have no other gods before me
- You shall not make any images
- You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God
- Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
- Honor your father and your mother
- You shall not murder
- You shall not commit adultery
- You shall not steal
- You shall not give false testimony
- You shall not covet your neighbor’s house
The New Covenant
Jesus gave the Greatest Commandments
Matthew 22: 34-40 (vs. 37 -40) Jesus replied to the disciples “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest Commandments. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hand on these two commandments.
If we follow just these two commandments found in the New Testament we will definitely be inline with and doing what the Ten Commandments state from the Old Testament.
Remember, if we love God and love mankind we will be inline with the commandments listed in the Old Testament while living by the New Testament Commands!
