Living Words of Encouragement
That Bitter Root
Mark 4:6 – But when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.
Matt 3:10 – (John the Baptist) the axe (Jesus) is already laid at the root of the trees, every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit it will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
A seed is dropped, (Satan the seed dropper) the water nourishes it, (negative conversation and thoughts) the roots begin to grow and before you realize it the plant comes forth. It has been suppressed for a long time and then all of a sudden you look up and there is the physical plant, come froth from the root.
Bitterness is a something that is sharp, unpleasant and causes deep physical or mental pain. Bitterness comes because an incident was distasteful to accept, you can’t admit to yourself that it happened or bear it. Bitterness can cause grief, anguish and disappointment. The root of bitterness is always out to get someone for something that happened.
It would be good to remember that God has not given us authority to avenge people. “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give no place to wrath; for it is written, vengeance is mine: I will repay, said the Lord” so we must allow God to do His work. (Romans 12:19)
We have the power to destroy this root. If God has not told us to talk to the person about it we still have a duty to not let it fester in us. We can make a conscious decision to love unconditionally. Our love can tear up the root. Jesus was betrayed by one of His own, and disowned by the rest, and He still loved them. We can learn to do the same.
Remember that by the Love of Jesus, bitterness can be turned to sweetness!
