Living Words of Encouragement
ARE WE LIKE OUR PARENT’S?
Do you ever stop to access the way you do things? Do you ever say I am doing it just like my mother or father did? Have often have we had encounters with our parent’s and we said to ourselves, I will never act like that. I would surmise that all of us at some times have acknowledged to ourselves that our parents didn’t by our standards do everything the way we thing it should have been done.
Today we will go into the book of Chronicles and see how the parent acted and how the child responded or followed. We begin by looking at King Uzziah (II Chronicles 26). This king reigned for 52 years. In the beginning of his kingship he did those things that were acceptable to God and was much influenced by the prophet Zechariah. Once Zechariah died the king changed his way and his corrupt side surfaced. He became conceited and full of himself, usurped the duties of the priest for burning incense, and was thus stricken with leprosy until the day he died.
Jotham his son (II Chronicles 27) did those things also which were pleasing to the Lord but he did not go into the Temple of the Lord (27:2). He did not command the people to stop their wicked activities. However, the scriptures state that “he became powerful because he obeyed the Lord his God.” (27:6)
It seems that from the example of King Uzziah we can do just one wrong thing and the rest of our life is taken in a different direction. Of course we want to strive to do the right things at all times. Yes I know we fall short, but I believe that there are some things that we should never find ourselves doing.
Looking back at Jotham we can fall short and God can still be pleased with us due to the sincerity of our heart. Thus, due to the fact that we are not puffed up and prideful, thinking that it is all about us. In everything we do we acknowledge God and give Him all recognition and glory.
Remember it’s best to follow Jesus example, than you know God will be pleased with you.
