Living Words of Encouragement
KNOW THY NEIGHBOR
Do you know your neighbor? We all have someone that lives or is located near us and as Christians God expects for us to exhibit feelings of friendliness to those persons. Yes, I know you are probably saying, “I don’t want my neighbors in my business.” Well, if you are doing that which is right, why should it be a concern? I have heard people say they get out of their cars and keep their head down so they don’t have to speak to there neighbor.
I remember having a barbecue at our house one day and a minister was talking about a situation she heard about her neighbor. She asked me did I know my neighbors. I was able to tell her about the neighbor on every side of my house. She stated that she could not image taking the time with her neighbors. I said to her just think what they might miss if we don’t’ converse with them. God always expects that we will let our lights shine
Be mindful, your neighbors may be unbelievers and if you don’t show Christ in your lifestyle, they may not see anyone else. “Be wise in the way you act with people who are not believers, making the most of every opportunity. When you talk you should always be kind and pleasant so you will be able to answer everyone in the way you should” Colossians 4:5-6) God has commanded us to love our neighbors, and we can’t love someone that we don’t have contact with. This royal law is found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If you obey this law, you are doing right. (James 2:8)
To know your neighbor and show yourself friendly does not mean that you have to go to that person’s house everyday. It means that when the opportunity arises to see each other that we take advantage of it. Sometimes you only need to wave your hand and speak then keep on moving. On occasion, we must take the time to converse with them. Surely as a Christian you can do this.
Remember, God command us to love and love must be put in action.
