Living Words of Encouragement
A CLOSER WALK
In this world we find that people have all kinds of things that they give allegiance to, that they have set before them as their god(s). These gods can be your spouse, children, job, and business in the church, shopping, automobiles and so many other things. However, the good thing for many of us is the realization that the best place to be is in the presence of the Lord. That all of these things have a place but nothing is more important than our relationship with God. This leads us to desire His presence, thus requiring us to walk with Him. We must have our focus on Him and be able to move as He directs.
One of the definitions for walk is to “conduct oneself or behave in a given manner: LIVE (walk in peace). Thus, as we walk closer with God we begin to exercise what the scriptures teach. In our walk, we “make every effort to give oneself to God as the kind of person He will accept. Be a worker who is not ashamed and who uses the true teaching in the right way.” (2 Tim 2:15, The Devotional Bible) As we walk closer with God, we seek to find out what the scriptures relate to us for daily living.
To have a closer walk God requires that we are humble with Him. To walk humbly, we must exhibit submissive respect to God. “What does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8, NKJV). When we are submissive, we are willing to stop, listen and take direction for our daily living, knowing that “He will never leave us nor forsake us.”(Deuteronomy 31:6).
Remember, if we are walking closer with Him we can’t be walking with the adversary.
